National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE) to receive £25k from third round of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund. NAWE among 925 recipients to benefit from the latest round of awards from the Culture Recovery Fund. This award will enable NAWE to create more opportunities for writers and communities.

We are delighted to announce that the next NAWE Conference will take place online from 10 - 12 March 2022. The conference will build on the success of our first online conference in 2021, and will include a mixture of curated panels and talks, as well as submissions from both NAWE members and non-members. We welcome high quality submissions from writers in education in all settings, as well as from arts professionals involved in creative writing pedagogy.

We are delighted to announce the host venues for the 2021 MaxLiteracy Awards. Funded by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust, MaxLiteracy offers funding for museums and galleries in England to support a dedicated programme of creative writing and literacy work within learning settings through the visual arts. The Awards are run in partnership with Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education and the National Association for Writers in Education (NAWE).

Free group coaching to help you weather the pandemic storm! With people across our sector struggling to make sense of how we’ll live and make a living while Covid-19 continues to make its impact felt on our daily lives, the need for peer support has arguably never been greater. That’s why NAWE is really excited to be launching a new virtual action learning programme for writers in education.

NAWE is delighted to announce the award of a grant from Arts Council England's Emergency Response Fund. The grant will enable NAWE to provide resources and online activities for its members and for the wider writing community across the coming months. The award give us something to celebrate together, even if we can't get together in person.

Creative producers and agitators the hub have teamed up with the Creative Industries Federation on a new mental health initiative especially for creative freelancers and entrepreneurs. To kick it off, they’ve launched a short survey that explores the impact COVID-19 has had so far on people’s mental health and careers/businesses, and the kinds of support artists, creative freelancers and those running their own creative organisations would find most useful over the coming months. Take part by 14th June.

The UK Council for Subject Associations (CfSA) has launched today an online directory to support educators in response to the surge in demand for home learning support.

We’re living in uncertain and unprecedented times. In response to the current situation, we’re all having to adapt and that means having to make difficult decisions about what we’re able to confidently commit to this year and how best we can serve our membership. With that in mind, we’ve taken the decision to postpone the annual NAWE Conference from November 2020 to 12th and 13th March, 2021, still in Bristol. Please save the dates!

We understand and acknowledge that this is a worrying time for everyone, especially for those relying on events, workshops and commissions for their income. We are actively talking with the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, the Society of Authors, Arts Council England, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Arts Council of Wales, and Creative Scotland about how we can best support our members and other freelance writers during this period of uncertainty.

The National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Fiona Mason as its Interim Director while current Director Seraphima Kennedy is on maternity leave. Fiona will take up her role officially at the beginning of March and lead on the organisation’s work, including our annual conference, until autumn 2020.
